Finding My Life Purpose & Fighting a Distracted Heart

Updated: Feb 28, 2019

Finding my life purpose. What's my purpose? Finding my purpose and fixing my eyes on Jesus. Fighting a distracted heart.

Distracted.

I find my heart wandering.

Tossed about by the ebb and flow of life.

Finding my life purpose. What's my purpose? Finding my purpose. Fixing my eyes on Jesus. Fighting a distracted heart.

I get caught up in the latest drama.

I spend so much time enveloped in the highlight reel of other’s lives.

I find myself constantly looking to the right and left.

And asking God “what am I to do?”

Some days I think maybe I have taken the wrong path.

Have I taken so many wrong turns that I can no longer find my way back to His plan for me?

My mind dashes in a hundred different directions as I think about my journey to this point.

Sometimes I feel aimless. Like a nomad. Going from one thing to the next. Constantly finding a new place to focus my attention.

At one time my purpose felt sure, but perhaps that was all a fecod. Merely a day dream.

But as I continue to wander this way and that, something begins to grow clearer. I am distracted.

Finding my life purpose. What's my purpose? Fighting a distracted heart. Heaven;y calling. Finding my purpose. Fixing my eyes on Jesus.

If Satan cannot have my heart, he’ll do his best to distract it. And, surely he is succeeding at that.

I sit down and I ask God for clarity. I look to the only place I know to find solid truth, my firm foundation, the Word of God. I open it up to the book of Hebrews, by chance perhaps, or maybe not so much.

“Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.” Hebrews 3:1

FIX YOUR THOUGHTS ON JESUS.

Yes, I think that’s it.

And I begin to remind myself once more that it’s really not about me at all. That my wandering heart and my distracted mind will only lead me astray.

I begin to focus, again.

Fixing my heart on Jesus.

Fixing my mind on Jesus.

Anchoring my truth in Him.

Claiming my promise through Him.

Resting my anxiety on Him.

Giving it all back to Him.

Choosing Him over anything else this world may offer, and asking that He guide my steps, redeem my mistakes, and give me strength to live out this calling. The one that is Heavenly. The one that never waivers. A calling to live out the love of Christ in everything I do, to everyone I meet.

Finding my life purpose. Fighting a distracted heart. What's my purpose? Heavenly calling. Fixing my eyes on Jesus. Finding my purpose.
